OUR HISTORY

EXPOSICIÓN EN LA GALERÍA SENDA DE BARCELONA

19 DE FEBRERO, 2023

The Xácara Pipeband was created in 1999 in Oviedo, in the bosom of the Cultural Association Xácara, from pupils of the School of Music Traditional Xácara - The Guareña, of Oviedo.

Though before we had done a couple of actions, the band appeared officially to the public in June, 2002 in the Theatre Campoamor of Oviedo, in the final day of the Contest and Sample of Folklore " City of Oviedo ".

MUSICAL DIRECTION

From his beginnings the band took Ricardo Soberado Hoyos as the musical director, and possessed several directors of percussion throughout this time, since they were Diego C. Camiña, Manuel Durán and Diego Purón. The division of the band and the final touch of the bagpipes was chargeable to Paul Alonso.

Nowadays, and from November, 2016, the band possesses Álvaro Álvarez Fernandez (member of the band from 2008), as the director musical and in charge of the final touch of the bagpipes, with Manuel Duran as director of percussion, and Diego Purón, and Arsenio Ruiz as co-workers in some of the arrangements of drums and side drums, respectively.

THE PIPEBAND

The pipeband is formed approximately by 21 persons. But they are not the only components of the grouping, because Xácara opens the doors to all those people who want to play in the band, providing them with the clothes, the instruments, and the musical training needed in the trials of the band, in order that they can get out to play as soon as possible with the rest of the components in active.

The bagpipes are perfected in If flat, handmade constructed in wood of granadillo for Michael Alonso. The percussion is of the brand Pearl, known like 'marching', used by the great majority of the bands of bagpipes of the whole world, both Scotch and Irish, Breton or American.

PERFORMANCES

More than 350 from the year 2002 up to today. The great majority for all the councils of Asturias and great part of the Spanish territory. Out of our borders we have operated in 39 edition of the InterCeltic Festival of the Lorient (France), Holiday of the Lemon (Monaco), the Festival Corps's Folclórico Saint Pierre (France), in the Festival of There dances Bretone et of the Saint-Loup de Guingamp (France), 89 ª edition of Cornouaille de Quimper's Festival (France), and our successful Tour stands out for the cities of Valparaiso and Santiago, in Chile, during September, 2011.

REPERTORY

Our repertory is formed in the main by traditional Asturian songs: jotas, muñeiras, pasodobles, cancios de chigre... Also we touch some topics of countries with musical popular perfect ours as: Scotland or The French Brittany.

PIPEBAND'S FESTIVAL

From the year 2002 until the year 2015 the band has celebrated an annual festival in the autumns months. Always it has been autofinanced by us themselves and by the Theatre Philharmonic and the Audience " Prince Philip ". There have spent the great majority of the bandas of bagpipes of Asturias, groups of dance, singers and groups folk, which we consider to be a fundamental contribution to the diffusion and promotion of the Asturian music, and of which we feel really proud.

Undoubtedly, our more ambitious musical project. A step beyond in our way of reinterpreting the Asturian music, in the search of new challenges, so much musical as personnels. A spectacle that has taken us to scenes, which, we had never thought to tread.
